SA4FZA

DX from the Swedish Granite Plateau

Amateur radio, HF antennas, DX operating and practical RF engineering from rural Sweden. Exploring, building, measuring and sharing real-world results.

Station & DX

From my radio station in Uvanå, Sweden, I explore HF propagation, DX operating and antenna performance. The station combines modern transceivers, classic radio equipment and a growing collection of antennas — with a strong emphasis on practical experiments and measured results.

Projects & RF Engineering

At SA4FZA, amateur radio goes beyond operating. I design, build and evaluate antennas, common-mode chokes, baluns and other RF equipment. Each project combines practical construction with measurements, field testing and documented results.

From antenna experiments to restoring classic radio equipment, the aim is always the same: understand how it works, verify its performance and share what I learn.

RX-1 — Dedicated Receive Station

Alongside the main transmitting station, SA4FZA operates a dedicated receive-only station for continuous HF monitoring and antenna experiments.

Using an Airspy HF+ Discovery receiver and a selection of low-noise receiving antennas, including Loop-on-Ground and Beverage-on-Ground configurations, RX-1 provides valuable insight into signal reception, propagation and antenna performance.

The aim is not simply to receive distant signals, but to compare antennas, investigate noise levels and document real-world results.

Classic Radio & Restoration

Keeping classic radio equipment alive is another important part of SA4FZA.

From restoring military communication equipment such as the AN/GRC-9 to repairing and maintaining vintage amateur radio transceivers, these projects combine traditional radio technology with practical electronics and RF measurements.

The aim is not simply to make old equipment work again, but to understand its design, preserve its character and document the restoration process.

Swedish DX Experience

Experience amateur radio from the Swedish Granite Plateau.

The Swedish DX Experience brings together HF operating, antenna experiments, practical RF workshops and the unique surroundings of rural Sweden.

Discover DX operating from a quiet countryside location, explore different antenna systems, take part in hands-on measurements and enjoy the Swedish landscape.

A small-group experience for radio amateurs who enjoy more than simply making contacts.

First edition planned for September 2027.

About SA4FZA

SA4FZA is the amateur radio station of Peter Gerritsen, located in Uvanå, Sweden (locator JP60VH).

After many years of amateur radio activity in the Netherlands as PE1FZA, I moved to Sweden in 2024 and established a new station on the Swedish Granite Plateau.

My interests range from HF DX operating and antenna experimentation to RF engineering, electronic construction and the restoration of classic radio equipment.

SA4FZA Antennas grew naturally from these activities, with an emphasis on practical designs, individual measurements and documented performance.
